FOOD SAFETY

Food Safety is the assurance/guarantee that food will not cause harm to the consumers when it is prepared and/or eaten according to its intended use. It is an utmost concern for handling. There are serious threats of food and water-borne illnesses to be from among hundreds of bacteria in which the most common is Salmonella species.

There are 5 keys to safer food according to World Health Organization (WHO):

  1. Keep Clean.
  2. Separate raw and cooked foods.
  3. Cook foods thoroughly.
  4. Keep food at safe temperatures.
  5. Use safe water and raw materials.

This is only but a few points in Food Safety. If there is an obvious or even suspected food borne diseases, it is important that if a portion of the suspected food is available, wrap it securely “danger” and freeze it for further testing.

(Whew. We started with a heavy topic there. It gets lighter as we go.)
